What To Do In Case Of Claim

FAQS

  • Claim Process in a few steps
Once the claim is filed, you will receive a claim number with the adjuster information (If available) Your assigned adjuster will reach out to you via phone call or email within 2 business days to obtain your statement and schedule an inspection or appraisal to your property. Once your property is appraised or inspected, a report will be available for the insurer’s review and approval. If coverage is granted, you will receive an initial repair estimate or quote along with the undisputed payment from the insurance, you can hire your preferred certified contractor or repair shop that works with insurance and agrees with their rates so that they can review the estimate, prepare one on their own and request a supplemental payment if necessary. (That supplemental payment will go directly to the contractor or repair shop chosen) Once your property is completely repaired, please keep every invoice and report for your records. – For Homeowners/Commercial property claims, you may request the completion photos, final bill and certificate of completion from your contractor to request your recoverable depreciation amount. (For RCV policies only) If you are not responsible for your property damages, your insurer will send a subrogation demand to the liable party with the final amount paid to restore/repair your property. They will try to recover the amount they paid and your policy deductible.
  • My house has been damaged. What steps should I take?
Document the damage with photos:⁣⁣To prevent further damage, you may need to make temporary repairs to your home. Before you make any changes or remove any damaged contents from your home, you should take photos. Your adjuster will need these photos to document your claim properly.⁣⁣Make sure you document serial numbers, model numbers of electronics. It is also recommended that you photograph each room from multiple angles prior to a storm event.⁣⁣⁣⁣ Prevent further damage:⁣⁣If safety and common sense allows, take necessary steps to prevent further property damage by making temporary repairs wherever possible. If necessary, remove wet carpet from your home to prevent mold. Make sure to provide at least a 2'x 2' sample of the carpet and pad to your claim adjuster.Your claim adjuster will estimate the damage to your house, but sometimes it's necessary to have an engineer or repair-experienced contractor also inspect for damage. Feel free to obtain your own contractor's estimate.⁣⁣⁣ Keep your receipts:⁣⁣Request and copy original receipts for all purchases or services needed to make temporary or emergency repairs. Save receipts for your additional living expenses. Save the copies for your personal records and give the original receipts to your adjuster.⁣⁣⁣

  • How do I file a Loss/Special Assessment claim?
For Loss Assessment claims, you will need to review the correspondence from the HOA and identify the cause of loss with the amount requested from each landlord. If it is a covered peril under the policy, such as water damage, hurricanes, theft/vandalism, etc, the insurance will pay for it up to the Loss/Special Assessment limit. (Maintenance is not a covered peril)
  • Do I have to pay a deductible if a Collision claim is filed under my policy for my vehicle damages even if I was not at fault?
Yes, when you file a claim under your automobile policy for damages to your vehicle, you are responsible for paying your deductible. When your vehicle is repaired and the claim finalizes, your insurer will send a subrogation demand to the party at fault to try recovering what they have paid along with your deductible.
  • Is the insurance company going to repair my property?
The insurance companies do not have their own contractors, they will pay for damages to your property, but you will need to hire your preferred contractor. Regarding automobile insurance, some of the insurers have in-network repair shops available.
  • Is the insurance company going to perform a Leak Detection and/or Mold test?
No, the insurance company does not perform leak detection and/or mold test. The insured can hire its preferred company to complete the job and identify the source of damage. The insurer will review the reports and determine coverage based on them. If the insurance company has already accepted coverage for the loss, they may reimburse leak detection or mold testing, especially if it is deemed necessary to assess the extent of the covered damage or to prevent further damage. Some policies even cover these tests outright under the claim. If the tests were done before coverage was confirmed, reimbursement may still be possible if they were necessary to identify the source of a covered loss (e.g., a hidden pipe leak causing water damage). However, if the leak or mold was due to long-term neglect or maintenance issues, those costs might not be reimbursed, even if the damage is partially covered.
  • If someone else alleges that their property got affected by my property, how should I act?
If you receive notice or formal correspondence from the HOA or the owner(s) of the other unit(s) you can file a Liability claim. Usually, you do not have to pay a deductible for this type of claims, but you will need to review your policy terms and conditions. The insurance company will process the correspondence received and require the information needed from you and the third party involved to determine coverage and liability. If the insurance company determines you are not legally liable for the incident, you are not obligated to pay for the third-party damages. If you are found negligent, and the damage to the other unit is from a source covered by the insurance company, the insurance carrier will pay for it. On the other hand, if the source of damage is not covered under the policy, you will be responsible for paying.
