Deductible

A deductible is a flat dollar amount that a member must pay before the insurer will make any benefit payments.

Out-Of-Pocket Maximum:

An out-of-pocket maximum is a the dollar amount set by managed care organizations that limit the amount a member has to pay out of his or her pocket for a particular health care service during a particular time period.

Co-Payment:

A co-payment is a payment made by a member for a particular health care service.

Co-Insurance:

Co-Insurance is a type of insurance which the member pays a share of the payment made against a claim or particular health care service.

In-Network Benefits:

In-network benefits refer to the providers or health care facilities that are part of a health plan's network of providers that have a discounted rate.

Out-of-Network Benefits:

Out-of-network benefits are providers and health care facilities that have not agreed to the discounted rates on your health plan.

Affordable Care Act (ACA):

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ( also known as ACA) was signed in law in 2010 to address access, quality and cost in the healthcare industry. ​ A health insurance plan that is ACA compliant provides essential health benefits and follows established limits on cost sharing on coverage such as deductibles, co-payments and out of pocket maximums. ​ In previous years, it was required for all United States citizens to be enrolled in a health insurance plan to be compliant with ACA. If you were not enrolled in a health insurance plan, you were subject to tax penalties. ​ 

Qualifying Event:

A qualifying event gives you the ability to sign up for health insurance outside of the annual open enrollment period. Types of qualifying events include: Marriage, Divorce, Loss of a loved one, Birth, Adoption, Relocation, loss of employment or starting a new job, and turning over the age of 26. 

Open Enrollment:

Open enrollment is a period of time each year when you can sign up for health insurance

Short Term Health Plan:

Short Term Health plans provide limited but affordable benefits to a major medical plan. Most short term plans can provide you coverage within 24 hours, and can range from coverage time frames of 30 days to 360 days long. ​

Important Client Notice - AvMed Policy Holders

AvMed has notified us that they will no longer be accepting debit/credit cards as a payment method for 2019.

 

Moving forward, they will only accept payment via EFT (bank account) for your policy.

 

If you have a current AvMed policy and your current payment method is via debit/credit card, please contact us immediately so we can update your account to prevent cancellation or non-renewal. You can contact us by simply responding to this email or calling us at (866) 729-1274. 

 

Please note, that if you do not take action regarding your payment method, your policy will be cancelled effective January 1st, 2019.
